3M Scotch Rubber Splicing Tape 23 is a professional-grade, self-fusing electrical tape designed for primary insulation and moisture sealing. It is composed of Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) and features a removable "snakeskin" liner to prevent the tape from sticking to itself before application.

According to 3M technical data sheets, this tape maintains its physical and electrical properties regardless of the degree of stretch.

• Voltage Rating: Provides primary electrical insulation for splicing all solid dielectric cables from 600V up to 69 kV.
• Temperature Rating: Rated for a continuous operating temperature of 90°C (194°F) and an emergency overload temperature of 130°C (266°F).
• Thickness & Elasticity: The tape is 30 mils (0.76 mm) thick and can be stretched up to 1000% to produce void-free, moisture-resistant insulation.
• Dielectric Strength: Offers a dielectric strength of 800 V/mil (31.5 MV/m). 

Key Features and Usage

• Self-Fusing (Amalgamating): When stretched and overlapped, the tape merges into a homogeneous mass of rubber, creating a permanent, inseparable bond.
• Highly Conformable: The EPR backing allows the tape to wrap snugly around irregular and complex shapes, such as motor leads or bus bars.
• Environmental Resistance: It is highly resistant to splits, cracks, and ozone when exposed to indoor or outdoor environments.

• Primary Insulation: Splicing and terminating cables up to 69 kV on all solid dielectric cables.
• Moisture Sealing: Ideal for sealing electrical connections and antenna coaxial connectors against moisture ingress.
• Stress Cones: Used as primary insulation for building stress cones on cables up to 35 kV.
